Sorglos’s Saga

Sorglos’s Saga has not been published yet.

In the world of Jord, sixteen-year-old Sorglos brashly pursues a deer into the forbidden forest and starts his woes. He is cursed by a witch, which binds him to months of servitude. Once he was free of her, his recklessness traps Sorglos into serving a reanimated wizard, who aggressively builds an empire. Eventually, he frees himself, but the experience leaves him haunted by guilt about the damage he had unleashed. On his long journey home, he uses single-purpose enchanted tools and his smarts. He outwits strange beasts, solves frustrating mysteries, bests wizards, and faces heart-wrenching dilemmas.

The book’s themes include redemption, confronting evil, the importance of family, compassion even when it is painful, and not judging people by their appearance.

Sorglos’ Saga touches on some problems that teenagers face, including poor self-image, exhaustion, bullying, and fighting. It also has examples of taking excessive risks, making poor choices, and people’s tendency to associate another’s beauty with moral behavior. The saga also has two teenage romances.

An ornate, antique compass made of brushed brass resting on a detailed, hand-drawn fantasy map labeled “Lands of Sorglos,” spread across a heavy oak table. The map features fine inked coastlines, mountain ranges, and unfamiliar city names, with a slender quill lying diagonally across it. A sealed wax envelope bearing a unique crest sits in the corner, hinting at secret messages from the saga. Gentle golden hour light streams from the left, casting long, dramatic shadows and subtle highlights on the metal surfaces. Photographic realism with a cinematic, slightly low angle and shallow depth of field, creating a mysterious, adventurous mood that reflects the epic scope of Kieran Brightwood’s worldbuilding.

World of Jord

Sorglos’s Saga takes place in the world of Jord. Sorglos’s adventure spans much of a huge continent surrounded by oceans. The majority of the world’s people have no magic and live in kingdoms, tyrant domains, or free towns. The technology of most of the world is a mix of medieval and magic driven.

Wizards constitute a small percentage of the population but have an oversized impact. A wizard gains their power from the planet, which refreshes their energy at dawn every day. With the ability to store limited amounts of energy, wizards carefully allocate their power to their spells to avoid running out.

Single-purpose enchanted tools are designed with a specific function until their day’s allotment of energy runs out. Some are straightforward, like the bottomless-water-flask that never needs refilling. Some are more complex. All are capable of storing energy and can use the energy as directed by the holder. These enchanted tools (or objects) are extremely rare and prized by their owners as they can be used by ordinary people.

Sorglos

Sorglos’s experiences mold his character. At the start of the saga, he is a sixteen-year-old boy who was tired of the boring farm life. As the youngest of five children, he is ordered around not only by his parents, Ethan and Gwen, but also by his older siblings: Aria, Edmond, Velox, and Amity. While doing his assigned chores out of necessity, he daydreams of adventure. Traders in the nearby town of Langsam would tell tales of wizards and magical creatures, and treasures beyond imagination.

On a whim, Sorglos chases a deer into the forest his parents have forbidden him from ever entering because few people who enter ever return. His decision changes his life forever.

His adventure unfolds …

Photographic realism, shot at an eye-level angle with shallow depth of field, creates an intimate, contemplative atmosphere that feels like the private study of an epic fantasy author at work.
